Vegas GM: Knights Uncomfortable With Giving Marchessault 5 Years

Vegas Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon says the team is uncomfortable giving forward Jonathan Marchessault a five-year contract extension.

Marchessault, 31, is entering the final year of his current contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2024.

McCrimmon said the team is willing to give Marchessault a three-year extension, but is not willing to go beyond that.

"We're not comfortable with five years," McCrimmon said. "We're not there yet. We'll see how the season goes and we'll see where we're at.

Marchessault is a key player for the Knights and has been one of their most consistent forwards since joining the team in 2017.

He has scored at least 25 goals in each of the past four seasons and is on pace to do so again this season.

However, Marchessault is also 31 years old and has a history of injuries.

He missed 20 games last season due to a lower-body injury and has also missed time in the playoffs due to injuries.

The Knights are concerned that Marchessault's age and injury history could make him a risky investment for a five-year contract.

McCrimmon said the team is willing to give Marchessault a three-year extension because they believe he can still be a productive player for them.

However, they are not willing to commit to a five-year contract because they are concerned about his age and injury history.

It remains to be seen if the Knights and Marchessault can come to an agreement on a contract extension.

If they cannot, Marchessault will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2024.
